„BAYERN BALLERS GAMING“ ON THE VIRTUAL COURT
FC Bayern Basketball welcomes a new team that will compete on the virtual court of eSports in 2019: The NBA 2K19 team of the German champions - 'BAYERN BALLERS GAMING' - played its first official matchup at the ISPO in Munich at the beginning of February. The new eSports project of FCBB was started in April 2018 and, after the formation of the team at the end of May, achieved quick success. The eight-man team around coach Swen Müller and point guard Marcel Stohl ("MGoCrzy") surprisingly climbed up to fifth place in the NBA 2K ProAM world rankings and was listed as the best European team. Several games were successfully staged as live events via their channel on the live platforms Twitch and Facebook. The game mode is called Pro-Am (5 vs. 5) and is played on NBA 2K from publisher ‘2K’.
For the new season of Bayern Ballers Gaming, another well-known partner was added when adidas joined the Munich NBA 2K19 team as official supplier. In order to defend the status as the best European team, the general conditions around the team will be further professionalized. In addition to regular training sessions with coach Swen Müller, there will be fitness training and a nutrition plan for the players.
The 2018 team was founded under the motto "Do YOU have what it takes to be drafted?" through a unique selection process for European eSports. NBA 2K players from German-speaking countries applied for one of the then eight spots for the Bayern Ballers. A jury of experts then made a preliminary selection before the eight players were selected for the Audi Dome eCup in May. This tournament in the Audi Dome - the first online event for the NBA 2K18 game simulation outside the USA - attracted around 50,000 spectators on the net.
In August 2018, the eSports team of FC Bayern Basketball presented itself to a larger audience at the world's largest trade fair for computer and video games - Gamescom in Cologne where they put on an exhibition game. This was followed, among other things, by another high-coverage appearance at the EGX gaming trade fair in Berlin at the end of September.
