SAP has commenced the social media competition #NameGameOn to find the new name for the multipurpose sports arena in the Münich Olympia Park. SAP Executive Bernd Leukert announced the start of the campaign at a press conference on Thursday, during which the winning architect and his design for the arena were unveiled.
On www.NameGameOn.com, fans and those interested around the world have three weeks to submit their name suggestions. The submission deadline is the 4th of March 2019. A jury made up of FC Bayern Basketball and Red Bull representatives, as well as representatives from SAP, who own the naming rights and are the technology and innovations partners of the arena, will select their favourites from the submissions. In the following voting phase, people can vote online for the best. There will then be a final vote online to determine the best name.
The naming process is expected to end at the end of March 2019. Name suggestions must fulfill the following two criteria: they should contain ‘SAP’ in the title, and cannot contain an internationally registered brand name.

“Contributing to a piece of sporting history in Munich”
“I think it’s a very good idea that everyone now has the chance to get involved in the development of this splendid project through the naming campaign,” said Uli Hoeneß, President of FC Bayern München. “The competition gives fans who love sport the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to a piece of sporting history in Munich. Participation in the naming of the arena will mean that visitors will be able to identify with the name in a very unique way.”
“As technology, innovations and naming sponsor, it’s important that the hall, considering its place in such a historic area like the Olympia Park in Munich, isn’t just given any old name,” said Bernd Leukert, SAP Executive and man responsible for Digital Business Services. “For us, it was clear from the offset that we wanted to bring fans who love sport together, so that they can identify with the new multipurpose sports arena as best as possible. We’re looking forward to a lot of creative ideas.”

Chances to win prizes
Alongside FC Bayern Basketball and EHC Red Bull München, SAP will be holding a raffle with valuable prizes, such as the opportunity for the winner to attend the opening ceremony, as well as a personalised seat in the new arena, which can be used to attend any public event for a year. Entrants who don’t live in Germany or Munich have the opportunity to win a range of prizes consisting of merchandise and the chance to attend a variety of events in co-operation with SAP Partners.
“Together with our partners, we want to offer spectators a special experience and give both FC Bayern Basketball and EHC Red Bull München a new modern home in the heart of the city,” declared Red Bull founder and managing director Dietrich Mateschitz. “FC Bayern München already occupies one of the most successful stadiums in the world and has created many special experiences there. With the expertise of SAP, we are working on implementing innovative technology, such as internet capabilities inside the stadium. We will also be able to offer expansive training opportunities to talented youngsters.”
