Before the start of the FC Bayern basketball team in the EuroLeague tournament in Valencia this Tuesday evening (20:00./MagentaSport), the last loose ends have been tied up with the Munich team: Nihad Djedovic is the new team captain of the five-time German champion and thus the successor to Danilo Barthel. The deputy team captain remains Vladimir Lucic, who is about to start his fifth season with Bayern. Nihad Djedovic, who grew up in Munich and is already entering his eighth year with the FCBB, has been playing for Bayern since 2013. With the FCBB, the 30-year-old German-Bosnian has won the championship three times and the cup once.
"I am very happy and proud that I have been chosen as captain of this team", says Djedovic. "After seven years, so many games and also titles for this special club, which I love so much and in whose city I grew up - to be the team captain of this club now, that just makes me very happy. As always, I will give my all to fill the role well and that the team will be successful again."
Bayern's head coach Andrea Trinchieri says: "In view of the long time Nihad has been here now, this was a natural, logical step. From my perspective as coach, the captain has a very important role to play. After all, this is not just an office that the club and the team have given him. To be captain is an honor, but above all it is a very responsible job".
FCBB record player
Nihad Djedovic is by far the record player for the FCBB, for whom he has played 238 BBL games and scored 2,859 points (12.0 ppg) - all tops in the club statistics. In 2019, the Guard was voted Final MVP when he won the title.
In the premier league, the family man played 82 of his 124 EuroLeague games for the Munich team, scoring 867 points (10.6 ppg); in the EuroCup, he had 45 appearances (8.3 ppg). Last season he was absent for about half a year due to injury.
