It is a first and comes as an additional motivation before a difficult month of February. The EuroLeague has named Augustine Rubit "Player of the Month of January" - so for the first time a player of Bayern Basketball is "MVP of the Month", which the EuroLeague has announced monthly for 18 years. "Aug" Rubit received the award for his outstanding performance, which led Bayern to a 4-1 run since the beginning of the year.
The 33-year-old power forward, who has made his home in Munich with his family since the summer of 2021, took on even more responsibility after the unfortunate injuries to captain Vladimir Lucic and Andreas Obst and has excelled. He scored an average of 17.8 points in the five January games, with excellent two-point shooting of 72.1 percent (32 made shots, league best), in addition to four of six threes (66.7%) and the second-best performance indicator (PIR) of all players out of 21.
Nearly 18 points per game, 72 percent from two
The Texan was good for at least 13 points each game in January, and his PIR of 34 to open the year in an 84-68 loss to Panathinaikos Athens (23 points, 9/13 from the field) marked a personal best in his fifth EuroLeague season. In the premier league, Rubit has played in 140 games so far (9.2 ppg), and this season has been his strongest: 11.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 59 percent twos and nearly 83 percent from the free-throw line.

He is Munich's top scorer at the moment, ahead of Cassius Winston (11.0 ppg). In the BBL, Rubit has averaged 12.7 points per game, with Winston (16.6) leading the way.
The last time a player from a German club was MVP of the Month was in 2016, when Italian Nicolò Melli (Bamberg, now Milan) was named MVP under current FCBB head coach Andrea Trinchieri.
