The refereeing section was founded in 1919 and currently comprises 115 referees, including four women referees. The section mainly provides referees for matches in the Munich district from the D juniors up to the senior district leagues. Match officials also take charge at major tournaments including the BMW Cup, indoor tournaments and junior championships, plus FC Bayern youth friendlies.
In 2002, the section established its own referees’ training unit, which currently offers special tuition and preparation for unusual match situations to 22 young referees.
The youngest FC Bayern referee is 12 and the oldest active match official is 70. Bayern referees also serve as officials for the Bavarian FA and the Munich Refereeing Association. Some of our members are official referee observers in the Munich district.
The Bayern referees undergo annual performance testing, and some 30 members also turn out regularly for the section's own football team.
