Ancelotti: It'll be a feast of football

It’s the standout fixture on Matchday 33. First versus second, the newly-crowned (again) German champions against their nearest challengers. On Saturday FC Bayern travel to Bundesliga newcomers RB Leipzig for the penultimate game of the season (kick-off 15:30 CEST, live ticker and Webradio commentary on fcbayern.com). “It’ll be a feast of football,” declared Carlo Ancelotti, expressing his excitement ahead of the clash.

The league title may already be wrapped up but Bayern want to demonstrate in Leipzig “that we’re number one in Germany", as highlighted by Thomas Müller. A victory would “round off the season nicely", said Ancelotti, who intends to “put out his best side".

Hummels not in the squad

It’s only in defensive areas where the 57 year-old has personnel concerns. Tom Starke will start in goal again with Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich injured, but Ancelotti will also have to come up with a solution in the centre of defence. As well as Javi Martínez who was operated on this week, Mats Hummels will also miss out. “Hummels is tired and has a minor problem but he’ll be back in training next week,” explained the FCB boss.

The FCB defence could therefore be in for a tough afternoon. Having scored 60 goals, Leipzig have the third-best attack in the Bundesliga. Respect for the opponents is big. “Leipzig have had a special season and they deserve to be where they are. They’ve been a fantastic opponent,” praised the Italian.

RB want to ‘ruffle’ Bayern

Thanks to some excellent performances the Saxony outfit have already qualified for the Champions League and can play without any pressure. They’ll be looking to give everything again when they take on Bayern. “It’s game in which we’d obviously like to ruffle them. And we want to put on another good show for our fans in the final home game,” commented captain Dominik Kaiser. “It doesn’t get much better than playing against the German champions in the final home match of the season,” said Ralph Hasenhüttl, who’ll be without injured centre-back Willi Orban.

“I’m expecting a fast-paced match. We need to keep the ball well against Bayern and try to stretch them,” continued the Bulls’ coach. With both teams going for the win, it promises to be a true feast of football!
