FC Bayern beat closest pursuers Borussia Dortmund 3-1 on Saturday, sealing their tenth Bundesliga title in a row. Serge Gnabry set Munich on their way after a quarter-hour, Robert Lewandowski doubling the advantage before half-time. Emre Can pulled one back from the penalty spot after the restart but Jamal Musiala put the game to bed in the closing stages. The victory in Der Klassiker means Bayern are 12 points clear with three matches to go and can no longer be toppled from their perch.
The German record champions lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernández and Alphonso Davies in defence. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Gnabry, Thomas Müller and Kingsley Coman, with Lewandowski up front. Musiala, Marcel Sabitzer, Leroy Sané, Niklas Süle and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting took over from Gnabry, Müller, Coman, Kimmich and Lewandowski in the second half.
Serge opens scoring
The match got off to a lively start with both sides looking to attack, Bayern asserting their authority after ten minutes. Gnabry found Goretzka in the box but his first touch let him down. Bayern took the lead when Goretzka flicked on a Kimmich corner to Gnabry, who controlled the ball with his thigh before powering through a crowd of players and in.
Erling Haaland dragged a shot wide before Bayern had the ball in the net, Coman's square inviting Gnabry to tap in, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Bayern doubled the lead moments later, though, when Borussia lost the ball in their own half, Müller setting up Lewandowski, who beat keeper Marwin Hitz. Goretzka miscued a header before Lewandowski shot off target, and the sides went into the break with FCB two goals to the good.
Jamal seals it
The second half started with a setback, referee Daniel Siebert pointing to the spot after Kimmich's challenge on Marco Reus, Can dispatching from 12 yards. Coman headed wide, Reus saw an effort saved before Hernández made a crucial block against the Dortmund captain. Lewandowski put wide and saw another effort saved.
Haaland saw a shot deflected behind before blasting over. Hitz denied Musiala, but the latter closed out the meeting when he fired home from close range to wrap up the three points and the title.
The victory takes Bayern onto 75 points from 31 matches. The Bavarians will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to face Mainz.
