FC Bayern beat TSG Hoffenheim 2-0 on Saturday, winning their fourth match on the bounce. Jamal Musiala and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored for dominant Munich in the first half. The match ebbed after the interval, and with no more goals to come as Bayern sealed all three points.
The Bavarians started with Sven Ulreich in goal and Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka featured in a twin holding role behind Serge Gnabry, Musiala and Kingsley Coman, with Choupo-Moting up front. Sadio Mané, Marcel Sabitzer, Mathys Tel, Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch took over from Coman, Goretzka, Choupo-Moting, Gnabry and Musiala in the second half.
Jamal and Choupo on target
Apart from a Musiala shot parried by keeper Oliver Baumann, the two sides cancelled each other out in the first ten minutes but Bayern soon asserted their authority. Choupo-Moting saw an effort saved before a Pavard shot was deflected behind but Bayern took the lead from the ensuing corner, Goretzka flicking on for Musiala to convert.
Bayern missed a triple chance when Baumann denied Goretzka and Musiala's follow-up was cleared off the line before Coman saw his rebound saved. Baumann denied Gnabry before Ulreich saved from Georginio Rutter at the other end. Musiala hit the side-netting but a Gnabry square soon invited Choupo-Moting to crash home, the forward scoring his fourth goal in the last three matches. Ulreich denied Rutter and Grischa Prömel to keep Bayern two up at half-time.
Cruise control
Bayern went looking to close out the meeting after the restart, but with the home side more solid at the back, the contest was all but devoid of clear-cut chances for large spells. Upamecano tested Baumann on the hour as Bayern were increasingly content to sit on their lead.
Rutter headed over and Baumann denied Sabitzer from close range. Stanley Nsoki's effort from distance went wide and Mané fired over before hitting the side-netting in injury time.
The result means Bayern have 22 points from 11 matches, one short of Union Berlin, who take on Bochum on Sunday. The Bavarians will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to face Barcelona in the Champions League.
