Commanding Reds outclass Bochum

FC Bayern downed Bochum 7-0 on Sunday, extending their lead in the nascent Bundesliga table. Munich tore into the Ruhr valley outfit from the start, Leroy Sané netting an early opener before Matthijs de Ligt, Kingsley Coman and Sadio Mané sent FCB four clear in the first half. Mané rounded off his brace on the hour mark and Cristian Gamboa put through his own goal before Serge Gnabry rounded off the final scoreline.

The Bavarians started with Manuel Neuer in goal and Benjamin Pavard, de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernández in a back four. Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich, Marcel Sabitzer and Coman featured in midfield, with Mané and Sané up front. Josip Stanišić, Ryan Gravenberch, Noussair Mazraoui, Gnabry and Gabriel Vidović took over from Hernández, Sabitzer, Pavard, Müller and Mané in the second half.

Impressive first half

The 26,000 full house in Bochum saw Bayern hit the gas from the off and take an early lead when Coman's cutback invited Sané to crash home from 15 yards. Bochum keeper Manuel Riemann soon thwarted another fine Sané effort. Müller and Sané fired wide, Anthony Losilla aiming too high at the other end. De Ligt doubled the advantage when he rose high to meet a Kimmich corner and nodded in, crowning his starting debut for the club.

Müller soon intercepted a header and forced Riemann into a parry, with Coman on hand to mop up. Neuer denied Takuma Asano before the champions had the ball in the back of the net for a fourth time, but Mané's goal was ruled out for handball. Coman soon found the African Player of the Year with a fine pass, Mané making no mistake from close range, and this time the goal stood.

Plain sailing

Proceedings were similar after the interval, Kimmich firing over before Saidy Janko upended Coman in the box, Mané dispatching the ensuing penalty. To add insult to injury, Gnabry tried to tee up Sané, but Gamboa's clearance ended up in his own net, bringing up the half dozen.

Bayern added a seventh when Gnabry fired across Riemann and in off the far post. Neuer denied Simon Zoller and Gerrit Holtmann, Gravenberch saw an effort deflected wide at the other end as it remained seven to equal Bayern's biggest away victory in the Bundesliga.

The result means Bayern have nine points from three matches, two clear of Gladbach, whom they will face next Saturday.
