    Reds ease into second round

FC Bayern lived up to their billing as overwhelming favourites on Saturday afternoon, easing into the second round of the DFB Cup after a 5-0 victory over third-division Chemnitzer FC. Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring after 20 minutes, Kingsley Coman adding a second early into the second half before Lewandowski completed his brace. Bayern rubbed more salt into the minnows' wounds in the closing stages, Franck Ribéry and Mats Hummels adding their names to the scoresheet.

The Bavarians started with Sven Ulreich in goal and Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Süle, Hummels and Rafinha in a back four. Corentin Tolisso and Sebastian Rudy featured in a twin holding role behind wingers Coman and Ribéry. Thomas Müller, who wore the armband, featured in the playmaking role, with Lewandowski acting as lone striker.

Carlo Ancelotti made two changes to the XI that beat Dortmund in the Supercup with Süle and Coman taking over from Javi Martínez and Arturo Vidal. Rafinha and Lewandowski gave way to David Alaba and Arjen Robben after the hour mark, Vidal coming on for Rudy a few minutes later.

    Lewy's opener

The 15,015 capacity crowd in Chemnitz saw the German record champions in the driving seat as the deep-lying hosts looked for chances to counter attack. Barely three minutes had been played when Bayern had their first presentable opportunity, but Lewandowski glanced a header over the bar. Chemnitz replied on the break but a low cross evaded friend and foe alike before Munich scrambled the ball away to safety.

Chemnitz keeper Kevin Kunz soon shone with two good saves, denying both Coman's daisycutter from a tight angle and Müller's follow-up, but Ancelotti's troops drew first blood after Lewandowski was upended 20 yards out, the Poland captain netting the ensuing free-kick with the help of a deflection. The Bavarians missed a couple of half-chances before Kunz performed miracles to deny a sumptuous Ribéry volley from 18 yards. It meant Bayern were only one in front when match official Bibiana Steinhaus blew for half-time, but at that point they had seen 80 percent of the ball, boasting 14 shots on goal without reply.

    Goal fest after half-time

After the restart Munich camped out in their opponents' half and pressed high up the field, but the second goal came on the break. Rudy gained possession and teed up the galloping Ribéry, who shone with a highly perceptive pinpoint pass to his compatriot on the right, Coman finishing the move in style with a rocket into the far corner of the net.

Lewandowski rounded off his brace to close out the meeting on the hour, crowning a blistering combination involving Coman, Kimmich and Tolisso from point-blank range. The pace dropped a shade now, but Bayern went onto the front foot again in the closing stages, when things became awkward for the weary home side. Ribéry unleashed a free-kick that arched majestically over the wall and into the near corner of the net. The German record champions had not had enough yet, Hummels connecting with a Robben corner to head home from 12 yards with the full-time whistle imminent.

The Reds are back in action next Friday, when they entertain Bayern Leverkusen in the Bundesliga opener.
