FC Bayern lived up to their role as overwhelming favourites on Wednesday evening, beating fifth-tier side Bremer SV 12-0 and advancing to the second DFB Cup round. Bayern scored five goals in the first half, Jamal Musiala scoring one and forcing an own goal, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting bagging three. Sub Malik Tillman, Musiala, Leroy Sané, Michaël Cuisance, Bouna Sarr and Corentin Tolisso found the net in the second half, Choupo-Moting rounding off his four-goal haul.
The Bavarians lined up with Sven Ulreich in goal and Sarr, Niklas Süle, Tanguy Nianzou and Omar Richards in a back four. Joshua Kimmich and Tolisso featured in a twin holding role behind Musiala, Thomas Müller and Sané, with Choupo-Moting up front. Chris Richards, Cuisance and Tillman took over from Süle, Kimmich and Müller at half-time, Serge Gnabry and Taylor Booth coming on for Musiala and Sané in the second half.
Plain sailing
The minnows by no means parked the bus but Bayern were dominant throughout, Musiala seeing an effort cleared off the line before Sané set up Choupo-Moting, who blasted home on the spin. Musiala drew a fine save from keeper Malte Seemann but soon doubled the lead.
Musiala beat Seemann for a second time, BSV's Jan-Luca Warm failing to scramble the ball off the line. Sané invited Choupo-Moting to tap home from close range before the latter made it five when he headed in a loose ball.
A dozen reasons to cheer
Proceedings were similar after the restart, Tillman intercepting a pass and coolly slotting past Seemann to score his maiden goal for Bayern. Musiala got another one when he blasted into the far corner of the net, Sané soon smashing inside the far post to add his name to the scoresheet.
BSV's Ugo-Maria Nobile was sent off for a challenge as last man, Cuisance netting from close range before Choupo-Moting scored his fourth of the night. Sarr scored his first goal for Bayern and Gnabry squared for Tolisso to make it a dozen and round off the final scoreline.
The Bavarians will be back in action on Saturday, when they entertain Hertha in the Bundesliga. Bayern will learn the identity of their next cup opponents on 29 August.
