FC Bayern beat AC Milan 1-0 on Tuesday night. Leon Goretzka scored the match-winner shortly before half-time in Bayern's last International Champions Cup match on the Audi Summer Tour.
The Bavarians started with Manuel Neuer in goal and Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Süle, Benjamin Pavard and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Corentin Tolisso anchored a midfield featuring Thomas Müller, Goretzka, Renato Sanches and Kingsley Coman, with Jann-Fiete Arp as lone striker.
Leon rewards Reds
The 18,496 capacity crowd in Kansas City saw the German record champions signal their intent from the off, although the first chance fell to Milan, Theo Hernandez drawing a save from Neuer. The Italians struggled against Munich's early pressing, netminder Gianluigi Donnarumma proving equal to a Müller header before clearing a number of crosses and corners.
Krzysztof Piatek aimed too high before Sanches saw his effort go inches wide at the other end. Arp saw his effort blocked, but Goretzka rewarded Bayern's dominance when he converted Kimmich's pinpoint pass with the half-time whistle imminent.
Second-half dominance
Sven Ulreich took over from Neuer between the sticks, Ivan Mihaljevic and Thiago coming on for Kimmich and Tolisso at half-time. Sanches and Coman gave way to Sarpreet Singh and David Alaba on the hour, Angelo Stiller replacing Müller with ten minutes to go.
Donnarumma comfortably saved a Sanches effort after the restart, Patrick Cutrone drawing a fine save from Ulreich. Both Arp and Alaba had the ball in the back of the net in the closing stages, but they had their goals disallowed for handball and an offside position, and match official Allen Chapman blew for full-time.
The Bavarians will be back in action next Tuesday, when they take on Fenerbahce in the Audi Cup.
