FC Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in the Supercup final, sealing their first title this season. Robert Lewandowski put Munich in front shortly before half-time, Thomas Müller doubling the lead after the restart. Marco Reus pulled one back for the Ruhr valley outfit midway through the second half, but Lewandowski closed out the meeting with a quarter-hour to go, and Bayern lifted the Supercup trophy for the ninth time.

The German record champions started with Manuel Neuer in goal and Josip Stanišić, Dayot Upamecano, Niklas Süle and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka featured in a twin holding role behind Serge Gnabry, Müller and Kingsley Coman, with Lewandowski up front. Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, Corentin Tolisso, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr took over from Coman, Müller, Gnabry, Lewandowski and Stanišić in the second half.

Lewy opens

After a minute's silence for Gerd Müller, who had passed away on Sunday, the 25,000 crowd at Signal Iduna Park saw a high-octane first half between two evenly-matched sides. A Kimmich cross evaded Müller before Lewandowski headed wide. Müller saw an effort blocked and Coman fired over from 10 yards, but Bayern soon had Neuer to thank for keeping the scores level when he made a world-class save against Reus.

Moukoko tested Neuer before Bayern almost had the ball in the net, but both Müller's shot and Lewandowski's rebound were blocked. Moukoko soon blasted past Neuer, but the linesman's flag was raised for offside. Coman fired just wide, Neuer making another crucial save against Haaland, but Lewandowski drew first blood when a Gnabry cross found the charging striker, who beat netminder Kobel with a powerful header.

Müller doubles, brace for Lewy

Müller doubled the lead after the restart when Davies set up Lewandowski, who saw his backheel deflected by Kobel, but Müller was on hand to mop up from close range. Dortmund had another goal ruled out for offside after Haaland raced clear and beat Neuer, but the Black and Yellows did pull one back when Reus' sublime curler from 20 yards found the top corner of the net.

Dortmund pushed for an equaliser for a spell but failed to create any clear-cut chances. Lewandowski saw a shot go wide but put the game to bed two minutes later, getting hold of a loose ball and slotting home to round off his brace. The match ebbed now, Goretzka drawing a comfortable save from Kobel and Haaland firing wide at the other end, and Bayern sealed the first silverware of the season.

The Bavarians will be back in action on Sunday, when they entertain Köln in the Bundesliga.
