FC Bayern handed new head coach Carlo Ancelotti a successful debut on Saturday as the Bavarians beat brave fifth-tier ouftit SV Lippstadt 4-3. Julian Green, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribéry and Lippstadt defender Marvin Joswig with an own goal scored for Bayern in the friendly against Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's home club.
With several internationals still on holiday after EURO 2016, the Bavarians started with Sven Ulreich between the sticks and Rafinha, Javi Martínez, Felix Götze and Lahm in the back four. Alonso and Bernat took up station in defensive midfield, with Green, Ribéry, Robben and Benko featuring in the attacking unit. "The first half was good. I didn't want to take any risks after it," said Ancelotti, who handed playing time to a clutch of young talents in the course of the match.
The 8,500 capacity crowd at the Am Bruchbaum stadium saw FCB youngster Green open the scoring eight minutes into the contest, netting a rebound after Lippstadt netminder Arne Kampe saved a Robben effort.
Brave hosts rewarded after half-time
Lahm set up Robben to double the lead, overcoming Kampe on the quarter-hour. Ribéry penetrated the Lippstadt rearguard after 32 minutes and drove home from point-blank rage. Arjen Robben had to be subbed off before half-time with a thigh problem after a sprint.
Several Bayern youngsters came on in the second half. Shortly after the interval Lippstadt centre-back Marvin Joswig put through his own goal after a Green cross, but the underdogs upped the pace and ultimately made the final scoreline surprisingly close. First Marcel Rump surprised Tom Starke with a long-distance effort before Stefan Parensen made it two, heading home a cross by Paolo Maiella. In the closing stages Maiella made the most of a mix-up in the Bayern box, taking the hosts up to a creditable three goals.
