Bayern win first pre-season friendly

FC Bayern won 4-1 at BCF Wolfratshausen in their first friendly ahead of the 2017/18 season. The two clubs had agreed to play two halves of 30 minutes as the new season begins this weekend for the Bavarian league side. Manuel Wintzheimer, Thomas Müller and Franck Evina (2) scored the goals for Bayern in front of around 4,000 spectators. Vincenzo Potenza netted the consolation goal on the stroke of full time.

In pleasant conditions the Reds, who had been through a training session at Säbener Straße earlier in the day, opened the scoring early on. Wintzheimer, an U19 player who’s recently been at a training camp with the amateurs, netted from the edge of the area in the third minute. In response Wolfratshausen became braver and even had a good chance of their own.

The record German champions, and particularly Müller, were a constant threat but were denied on a few occasions by good reactions from Emrullah Karaca. With virtually the last kick of the first half, Müller finally doubled Bayern’s lead. Ancelotti made five changes at the break and U17 league winner Evina got on the scoresheet with his first touch of the ball in the 31st minute. The striker made it 4-0 shortly before full time, before Potenza gave the minnows something to celebrate.

Ancelotti took 17 players to Wolfratshausen, including four first-team players in Mats Hummels, Müller, Kingsley Coman and Marco Friedl. The game was too soon for Jérôme Boateng, who at least took part in some team training that morning, as it was for Javi Martínez and Juan Bernat who are briefly sitting out at the moment. Franck Ribéry also stayed in Munich for individual training, while standby player Tom Starke played in goal for one half.

Bayern’s next friendly is this coming Sunday when they meet FSV Erlangen-Bruck in Herzogenaurach.

FC Bayern line-up: Starke (Hoffmann 31) – Türkkalesi (Obermair 31), Feldhahn (Mai 31), Hummels, Friedl – Pantovic, Fein (Tarnat 31) – Coman, Müller (Hingerl 45), Tillman – Wintzheimer (Evina 31)
