The FC Bayern U19 team are out of the UEFA Youth League after losing 3-1 at home to Olympiacos in the quarter-finals on Tuesday afternoon. Christos Mouzakitis gave the visitors the lead shortly after the half-hour mark, which Antonios Papakanellos doubled five minutes later. Charalampos Kostoulas then made it 3-0 before the break, all but ending the contest. Robert Ramsak did pull a goal back for the Munich boys in the 63rd minute, but despite a valiant effort, they couldn't come back in front of 1,500 spectators at the FC Bayern Campus - including honorary president Uli Hoeneß, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, board member for sport Max Eberl, sporting director Christoph Freund and first-team head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Three changes to starting XI
Head coach Rene Marić made three changes from the team that beat Feyenoord 3-2 in the round of 16, with Adam Aznou, Vincent Manuba and Jonah Kusi-Asare starting in place of Adin Licina, Benedikt Wimmer and Emirhan Demircan.
Nightmare eight minutes
Minute 2: A first scare for the hosts as a clearance fell to Stavros Pnevmonidis, who outmuscled Manuba. His placed shot was turned onto the post by Max Schmitt in the Bayern goal.
Minute 14: Kusi-Asare with the first opportunity for Bayern. Lovro Zvonarek asserted himself well in midfield and supplied Ramsak, who shows good vision to play in the Swede, but Olympiacos keeper Antzelo Sina came out quickly to smother.
Minute 19: Zvonarek and Javier Fernández combined to win the ball in midfield and the Spaniard immediately looked for Kusi-Asare with a diagonal ball. The forward had a go from distance but his shot was not accurate enough.
Minute 32: The opener for Olympiacos. After a mistake from Munich in build-up play, the ball came to Mouzakitis on the penalty spot and he slotted it in to leave Bayern trailing.
Minute 37: Goal number two for the Greek side. Papakanellos advanced down the left side and cut inside into the penalty area before firing into the roof of the net from a tight angle.
Minute 40: 3-0 to the visitors. Charalampos Kostoulas capitalised on a misunderstanding in the Bayern defence and increased the lead with a shot from around 18 metres.
Ramsak strike not enough
Minute 48: FCB had to increase the tempo and take more risks going forward. Fernández marched through in midfield but his effort from the edge of the area went way wide of the target.
Minute 63: GOAL for FCB! There's no stopping Zvonarek, who pulled the trigger from 16 metres. Sina could only parry the ball, with Ramsak in the right place to poke in the rebound.
Minute 66: Zvonarek again escaped his marker and took a shot, but this time Sina was able to hold on to the ball.
Minute 73: Sina had to be at full stretch to push substitute Licina's left-footed shot from the edge of the box over the bar.
Minute 87: Zvonarek went for goal with a free kick from 20 metres, but it sailed just over the bar.
Minute 89: Another powerful shot from Licina, but Sina dived to scramble the ball out of the bottom right-hand corner at the last moment, keeping the score at 3-1.
No games until April
There's now an international break and an Easter break for the U19s, whose next competitive fixture is on Saturday 6 April in the league. Last year's champions Mainz 05 are the visitors at the FC Bayern Campus. One week later, Marić's charges travel to 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday 13 April.
