Just as the miserable injury situation at Bayern showed signs of easing with the return of Luca Toni, Martin Demichelis and Tim Borowski, head coach Jürgen Klinsmann has been dealt a new blow on the news that Turkey international Hamit Altintop faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The midfielder has again been laid low by an old injury to his right foot. He originally sustained a fractured metatarsal while playing for Turkey in Belarus on 26 March, after which a metal plate was surgically inserted to speed the recovery process. However, the Bayern medical unit has now diagnosed a stress reaction of the bone in question.
Altintop complained of pain in his right foot after the first competitive game of the new season, Bayern’s 4-3 DFB Cup first round victory over Erfurt. He sat out the Bundesliga opener against Hamburg, but returned to the starting line-up for Saturday’s trip to Dortmund. Unfortunately, that looks like being his last appearance for a number of weeks.
