Borowski: It’s something to build on

Bayern are through to the DFB Cup last sixteen after a comfortable 2-0 victory over second division Nürnberg, a success which “made partial amends” for the 5-2 weekend defeat to Werder Bremen, as Bayern general manager Uli Hoeneß noted following a “lively match“ at the Allianz Arena. “We were clever and scored at the right time,” remarked goalscorer Tim Borowski, “it’s something we can build on.“

Reaction to Bayern v Nürnberg

Uli Hoeneß: “I think we can be happy. It was a lively match from both teams and we’ve brought home a deserved 2-0 win. I reckon we’ve made at least partial amends. Winning is all that matters in the Cup, and we’ve done that with something to spare tonight. I’d like our next tie to be here at the Allianz Arena against 1860 Munich.“

Jürgen Klinsmann: “2-0 is the right result. We set out to make up for Saturday’s nightmare, it was eating away at us. We’ve succeeded, and we’re happy to be in the next round. Nürnberg gave a very good account of themselves, they never stopped playing football and had a couple of chances, but we created significantly more and might have scored another couple of goals ourselves.“
