So it came to pass in Wednesday evening’s DFB Cup second round tie. “Comfortable,” Bayern general manager Uli Hoeneß summarised after the Cup holders defeated the second division side 2-0 at the Allianz Arena to book a place in the last sixteen.
“We’ve watched a serene victory for our team over a very good Nürnberg side,” Hoeneß continued. Four days after losing 5-2 on the same ground in the Bundesliga against Werder Bremen, the home team “clearly sought to make amends for the weekend disaster, and I think it went very well,” the board director said.
