Bayern’s 1-0 reverse in Hannover sparked frustration in the champions’ camp. “It was a totally unnecessary defeat. It hurts, but it’s something we have to swallow,“ commented Jürgen Klinsmann. “We defended better than we did against Bremen, but we were toothless in attack,“ Philipp Lahm remarked. And Uli Hoeneß had some sharp words for the players: “I’ve noticed how many teams are ahead of us, and it annoys me. We should put a lot of effort into making sure it doesn’t stay that way for very long.”
Reaction to Hannover v Bayern:
Jürgen Klinsmann: “We weren’t bad at the start and controlled the game. We were knocked out of our stride after they scored from the free-kick, and we never found a way back. We didn’t create the chances our strikers need to score goals. It stayed that way right to the end. It was a totally unnecessary defeat. It hurts, but it’s something we have to swallow.“
Uli Hoeneß: “I’ve noticed how many teams are ahead of us, and it annoys me. We should put a lot of effort into making sure it doesn’t stay that way for very long. We were much too careless today. We were totally in control for the first 20 minutes, but we let them seize the initiative with a stupid goal from a free-kick. Thankfully we have our next game on Tuesday against Lyon. We can use it to test ourselves at the European level and hopefully find our rhythm, so we play better in the league than we have done recently.“
