Friday was a holiday in Germany marking the 18th anniversary of reunification. Almost the same length of time has passed since VfL Bochum left Munich with anything much to celebrate. The Ruhr Valley outfit, who registered their solitary away win over Bayern on 28 August 1991, are back at the Allianz Arena on Saturday (Live in English from 3.15 pm CET on FCB.tv Web Radion), but they will find the champions in even more unforgiving mood than ever.
FCB have lost their last two league fixtures, “so we need these three points,” noted Zé Roberto. Commented Jürgen Klinsmann: “We’ve suffered two unnecessary defeats, so we need to repair the damage. The team knows it’s time we got going in the Bundesliga. We need to collect some points, and move up to where we belong in the table.“
The right direction
The team had a duty to set the record straight in the final Oktoberfest home match of the season, argued Miroslav Klose. “We owe it to the crowd. We need to shift up on gear on Saturday.“ Bayern’s off-the-ball movement had to improve, the striker reasoned. “We need to give the man in possession two or three options by running into space. That’s been a bit of a problem recently.“
