Bastian Schweinsteiger has committed the next three years of his career to Bayern. The 24-year-old inked a three-year contract extension at the weekend, binding him to the Munich club until 30 June 2012. Schweinsteiger’s current deal was set to expire at the end of this season.
“We’re delighted we’ve reached a positive conclusion with Bastian, another very important personality at the club,” FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge commented after securing the Germany international’s signature. The Bayern youth product has been linked with a long list of top European clubs recently.
Nevertheless, Schweinsteiger has repeatedly said in recent months he would be talking to Bayern before any other clubs. After what Rummenigge described as “very amiable and fair” talks, the parties have agreed a deal on the eve of the Bundesliga’s winter break.
