Heynckes: We were convincing at times

On Matchday 30, Bayern overcame stubborn Borussia Mönchengladbach after an enthralling 90 minutes at the Allianz Arena. The champions dominated throughout, but were profligate with their chances in the second half. That point was noted by Jupp Heynckes, although the caretaker boss was a satisfied man all in all: “We played convincing football, we moved the ball well, and we kept the pace high."

Reaction to Bayern v Monchengladbach:

Jupp Heynckes: “Gladbach were tough to play against in the first half. They set out their stall and defended, but we played convincing football, we moved the ball well, and we kept the pace high. We went in at half-time 2-1 to the good. We didn’t play as well after the break, but we did create chances. It would have calmed the situation down if we’d made it 3-1. We saw today that it’s still not what it should be in many areas, especially in the second half when the team wasn’t as fresh. But the main thing is to put away your chances.“

Bastian Schweinsteiger: “It was very tough against Gladbach today because they just pulled everyone back, and our markers tracked us all the way. If I’d gone to the loo, my man would definitely have come with me. But we played really well at times. We need just a little more composure and we need to tighten up at the back, and then it’ll all look pretty good. We’ve played with a midfield diamond before, so it wasn’t a particularly big change for the players. But we need to be smart about using this system, and we need to be better coordinated at the back.“
