Change has been the order of the day in the Bayern squad this summer, with six new faces, one man back from a loan spell, two reserves promoted to the first team, and four players leaving the club. Two days prior to the stars officially reporting back to Munich for pre-season training, a revised list of squad numbers has now been released.
In his first season with Germany's most successful club, Edson Braafheid will wear the number "4" on his jersey, while Croatian newcomers Ivica Olic and Danijel Pranjc have been assigned the numbers "11" and "23" respectively.
Highest number for Tymoshchuk
Brazilian defender Breno switches to the squad number "15", allowing Germany striker Mario Gomez to retain the number "33" shirt he favoured during his prolific stay with VfB Stuttgart. Former Gladbach shooting star Alexander Baumjohann becomes the club's new number "19". FCB youth products Thomas Müller and Holger Badstuber officially join the senior squad with the shirt numbers "25" and "28".
Ukraine dynamo Anatoliy Tymoshchuk will add his strength to the Bayern midfield with the number "44" on his back, the highest number of them all this term. Right-back Andreas Görlitz, the player returning from two years on loan to Karlsruher SC, has opted for the squad number "13".
One area where there has been no change is the goalkeepers. Michael Rensing will continue to wear the number "1" and Jörg Butt the number "22". New head coach Louis van Gaal intends to monitor the situation during pre-season training before deciding whether that will also reflect the final pecking order among the club's shot-stoppers.
