You just can’t get too much of a good thing! Eight days after their most recent appearance on Munich Town Hall balcony, the freshly-crowned double winners paraded for the Marienplatz crowds again on Sunday. At just before 3 pm, some 20,000 overjoyed fans in the city centre square greeted the stars as they emerged tired but happy onto the balcony.
“We deserve a really wild party now,” declared Jérôme Boateng after a night of celebration in Berlin. Arjen Robben said it was “the reward for all our hard work,” culminating in the tenth domestic double in FCB’s history. “We’ve hardly slept, we just partied,” revealed veteran Daniel van Buyten.
“I’d like to thank everyone for coming,” Thomas Müller yelled to the Marienplatz crowd, before leading the fans in a chant or two. Rafinha showed impressive musical talent with a Louis Armstrong tribute, before Müller again seized centre stage: “The cup’s back where it belongs this year!“
A short time earlier, the cup winners were given a heroes’ welcome at Munich airport. Water cannon were fired for the charter plane bearing the name FC Bayern Siegerflieger (FC Bayern Winners’ Plane). Captain Philipp Lahm bore the DFB Cup from the aircraft via a red carpet, before the players boarded the team bus for the transfer to Marienplatz.
