Müller & Lewandowski on the cup final & Pep
Manuel Neuer and David Alaba represented Bayern's defensive unit when they faced the media on Tuesday, and it was the forward line's turn the following afternoon. Top FC Bayern strike duo Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski reported to the press centre after training on Wednesday and took questions from a large gathering of media representatives. fcbayern.de heard the pick of the players' statements.
Thomas Müller on...
...the cup final: "FC Bayern start nearly every game as favourites. Both teams boast excellent quality. I don't think the teams will enjoy a lot of space. It'll be a bit of a test of endurance, but I hope it'll still be a good game for the fans. Winning the cup is a big target."
...Pep Guardiola's departure: "If I were a coach, I'd ideally leave with a trophy from my last match."
...penalties: "They're Lewy's now. For now, I have to do some training again."
...his personal record: "All I can do is say it over and over again: whether my personal stats are better than they were last season isn't the important thing. The most important thing to me is that the players around me -- possibly thanks to me -- produce their best performance and we win as a team. I know it sounds like a cliché, but it's no use to me if I score three goals and we lose 4-3. I'll still be in a bad mood for the whole of Sunday."
...Joshua Kimmich's Germany call-up:"Joshua has been consistently good at a very high level. Now he has to prove to the coaches that he can help the team, and I hope he does."
Robert Lewandowski on...
...the cup final: "BVB have shown how good they are so often this season. With a bit more luck they'd be in this evening's Europa League final. We can't afford mistakes and we need to be on top form. Both teams have outstanding forwards. The difference between BVB and Bayern is very small. It's a one-off match so the little details will decide it."
...Mats Hummels:"He'll give 100 percent for BVB. He's a complete pro."
...FCB this season:"If we win the double we'll have had a really, really good season."
...Pep Guardiola's departure: "I've learned a lot in my two years with him. I'm a better player than before my time at Bayern."
