'A nice, intense match'

The Bavarians were pleased after the hard-fought 2-0 victory away to Schalke. "It was the tough match we expected," Carlo Ancelotti said after his second Bundesliga fixture, which was "pretty balanced in the first 60 minutes." Scorer Robert Lewandowski too was happy after the second win of the season.

Reaction to Schalke v Bayern:

Carlo Ancelotti: "It was the tough match we expected against the strong opposition we expected. Schalke caused us many problems. The game was pretty balanced in the first 60 minutes. Our play was more intense after that, Robert Lewandowski's goal resulted from that. It was a nice, intense match from both sides. Schalke were better in the first half, we were better in the second one."

Robert Lewandowski: "It was a very intense and good match. We knew we'd have to be patient. I'm pleased we've won. It's never easy to win here. It was an important victory."

Markus Weinzierl (FC Schalke coach): "We turned in a good, brave display. If it hadn't been for ten minutes we'd have taken at least one point. We had one or two chances in the first half, if we'd taken the lead more would have been possible. But you have to be ruthless and effective against Bayern, and you mustn't allow any chances."
