Round of 16 draw after derby match

Should FC Bayern progress to the next round of the DFB Cup on Wednesday against FC Augsburg, it will be another entertaining evening for all Munich fans. German gold medallist in horizontal bars Fabian Hambüchen will be making the draw for the round of 16 after the game under the auspices of Germany Women’s coach Steffi Jones. The round-of-16 ties will be played on 7th/8th February 2017.

Augsburg week for FCB

The Reds face FC Augsburg twice in four days this week. The record champions begin by welcoming their Bavarian neighbours to the Allianz Arena in the second round of the DFB Cup on Wednesday. Three days later the rolls are reversed as Bayern travel to Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Fourth cup meeting

FCB and FCA meet for the fourth time in the DFB Cup on Wednesday evening – the third time in four years. There have previously been two encounters in the round of 16, with Bayern progressing 2-0 on both occasions. The first meeting was in the second round in 1983/84 – that saw an emphatic 6-0 win for Bayern.

One-sided record

Since Augsburg’s promotion to the Bundesliga in 2011, they have faced Bayern 12 times in all competitions. FCB have won 10, FCA two but they have failed to score more than one goal in any of the 12 encounters.

Unbeaten in four years

FC Bayern have not been beaten in the DFB Cup for over four years (in 90 or 120 minutes). The last ‘real’ defeat in this competition was the 5-2 in the 2012 final against Dortmund. In simple numbers, that means FCB have not lost in 24 cup games and have also not conceded in their last five. Both are records in the competition.
