Four Bayern wins over PSV

Clashes between German and Dutch teams have a long tradition in European football, but FCB’s last encounter with a side from the Netherlands was actually some time ago: Ajax in the Group Stage of the 2004/05 Champions League. FC Bayern and PSV Eindhoven meet competitively for the seventh time on Wednesday evening. The Reds have been victorious in four of the previous six encounters, drawing one and losing one. The sides most recently met in the 1999/2000 Group Stage with both clubs winning their home games 2-1.

Unbeaten at home

FC Bayern’s record against Dutch opposition is impressive. Ten wins, four draws and four losses is the German champions return from 18 matches (scoring 36, conceding 25). The most notable part, however, is that the Reds have never lost in Munich to a side from the Netherlands.

And speaking of home form, Bayern have won their last 13 at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League. The 5-0 victory over Rostov in the first game of this season’s tournament took FCB past Manchester United’s record from 2006-2008.

European away-day blues for PSV

The Dutch champions have struggled on the road in recent rimes. Since their 1-0 victory at CSKA Moscow in November 2007, PSV have failed to win in eight away games in Europe (D3, L5). Their record against German sides is also patchy, winning just 10 of their 35 matches, drawing seven and losing 18 (scoring 36, conceding 45). PSV’s last victory in Germany was almost 39 years ago – a 2-1 win at Eintracht Braunschweig in December 1977.
