Four days after demolishing Hamburger SV, FC Bayern again delivered an impressive performance as they gave FC Schalke 04 no chance in the 3-0 quarter-final victory. A brace from Robert Lewandowski and one from Thiago put the game to bed even before half time. “We were very good in attack in the opening minutes – Schalke couldn’t do anything,” said FCB’s two-goal hero after the game.
Reaction to Bayern vs Schalke
Carlo Ancelotti: “We were really good from the first whistle and played with high pressing. We put the Schalke defence under a lot of pressure and controlled the game well.”
Robert Lewandowski: “We played very well in attack in the opening minutes and scored three goals. Schalke couldn’t do anything. We just played our game in the second half. We know we have to play every three days so our tempo wasn’t as high then.”
Manuel Neuer: “We’ve got some important weeks coming up with the knock-out games, we know that. We want to step things up a notch for that, so are now concentrating even harder and you could see that today.”
Markus Weinzierl (Schalke 04 coach): “We didn’t manage to challenge them today. We were 3-0 down after half an hour, which was a real blow and was absolutely not what we had in mind. Nothing is gifted to you here in Munich, but the way we defended is criminal against Bayern. All in all, a poor evening.”
Ralf Fährmann (Schalke 04 goalkeeper): “That was a real blow today. We just weren’t at the races in the first half – we were beaten in every department. Bayern then took their foot off the gas in the second half, but it was still too little from us and Bayern deserved to win. We have to move on from this evening quickly.”
