Time for a change

FC Bayern in Paris – the record champions' previous visits to the city of love have been anything but unsuccessful. The Bavarians haved played three games in the French capital, and all three were defeats. Time for a change! At fcbayern.com we've put together some more facts and figures.

UCL premiere was in Paris

Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern have faced each other six times in competitive matches, all in the Champions League. The first meeting in September 1994 was actually the first game for both clubs in Europe's elite footballing competition. Oliver Kahn and Lothar Matthäus both made their debut in this 2-0 defeat. Overall PSG have the edge in this fixture, winning four games to Bayern's two.

Bayern vs. France: 17/31

However, FC Bayern have generally done well when playing against French teams. Of 31 games so far,the record champions have won 17, with five draws and nine defeats. The Bavarians have won all of their last six games against French opposition, their best ever run, and have outscored their opponents 15-1!

Imposing home record

The Ligue 1 runners up from last season are tough to beat at their home stadium. They've lost only one of their past 43 European home games, winning 27 and drawing 15. The last defeat in April 2015 was a 3-1 loss at the hands of Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals. PSG have scored in 25 of their last 26 UCL home games - the only exception a 0-0 draw against Real Madrid in October 2015.

Attacking is key

Recently the men from Munich have had difficulty on the road. FC Bayern have won only two of their last eight away games, with two draws and four defeats. In that time the record champions have conceded 15 goals. However, in seven of their last nine Champions League away games FCB have scored at least two goals.

Spaniard in charge

Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz takes charge of Bayern's game in Paris. Wednesday's group game will be Lahoz' 20th Champions League game and his second Bayern match: the 40-year-old refereed Bayern's 1-0 win at Viktoria Pilsen in November 2013. The referee has not previously been in charge of a PSG game.
