Bayern unbeaten at home vs. Wolfsburg

Will the run continue on Friday? FC Bayern have been victorious in the last 15 home games against Wolfsburg! In that time the men from Munich have scored 38 (2.5 per game) and conceded only seven. At fcbayern.com we’ve put together a few more facts and figures.

20 games, one point

So far, success has evaded Wolfsburg when playing in Munich. Of 20 games played at Bayern the Wolves haven’t won a single one! They’ve lost 19 times, with the solitary point coming in December 2001, a 3-3 draw.

5-0, 6-0

The last matchup in Munich was a decisive win for the Bavarians. Bayern returned to the top of the table with a 5-0 win on matchday 14 of the 2016/17 season. Robert Lewandowski scored twice and Thomas Müller ended his goal drought after 999 minutes. The return fixture in Wolfsburg was also a romp for Bayern - it ended 6-0, Wolfsburg’s heaviest defeat in the Bundesliga.

Lewandowski’s finest hour

The fixture planners have proved fortunate with their scheduling! Tonight’s game comes exactly two years to the day that Robert Lewandowski made footballing history. After being subbed on at half time, the Pole needed just 8 minutes and 59 seconds for his already legendary five goal haul (see Interview)!

Gerhardt & Gerhardt

Friday should have been a reunion with Wolfsburg’s captain and top scorer Mario Gomez. However the long time Bayern striker is sidelined due to injury. However, Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic will come up against his former club, where he played in 2011 and 2012. Meanwhile Anna Gerhardt could see her loyalties tested on Friday: the Bayern Women’s player is the sister of Wolfsburg’s Yannick Gerhardt.

Dingert in charge

Christian Dingert from Lebecksmühle will take charge of the match on Friday. Dingert has refereed 13 Bayern games in his career: they resulted in nine wins (including the 3-0 win against Wolfsburg in September 2012), three draws and one defeat. Tobias Christ and Timo Gerach will assist from the touchelines and Arno Blos will be the fourth official. Marco Fritz is the Video Assistant.
