Bayern against Dortmund - this evening (18:30 CET) sees another mouth-watering clash between Germany's football royalty, one week after the Reds replaced BVB as Bundesliga leaders. What better way to get in the mood for 'Der Klassiker' with a few stats and facts.
Meeting of champions
In the last eight years the Bundesliga shield has gone to either Munich (six times) or Dortmund (twice). In 24 seasons Bayern and Dortmund have collected a total of 20 league titles, with FCB winning 15 and BVB five. They're also the only two sides who have won more than one title during this time.
Attacking battle
Bayern against Dortmund is also a battle between the current best two attacks in the Bundesliga. The two sides are joint-top when it comes to big chances created this season (26) and have also had the most shots on goal (Bayern 194, Dortmund 171) and scored the most goals (Bayern 24, Dortmund 27). The top two teams in the league also have the two most prolific strikers, with Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leading the goalscoring list on 10 goals apiece. In the four years they've both been playing in the Bundesliga, the pair have scored a combined total of 202 goals (Lewandowski 107, Aubameyang 95).
Even record in Dortmund
This evening will be the 97th Bundesliga encounter between FCB and BVB. Bayern have won 43 of them, Dortmund 24 and there have been 29 draws. The Black and Yellows have suffered more defeats against the Reds than any other club, and have only won one of the last six meetings: a 1-0 victory in November last year. That was also BVB's first win in four home games against Bayern. FCB's overall away record against Dortmund is even: 14 wins, 15 defeats and 19 draws.
And the referee is...
...Tobias Stieler. He's 36 years old, a solicitor and comes from Hamburg. Stieler has previously officiated 15 Bundesliga games involving Bayern and they have only lost one of them: the 1-0 loss in Dortmund last November. He'll be assisted on the touchlines by Dr. Matthias Jöllenbeck and Christian Gittelmann. The fourth official is Bibiana Steinhaus, while Harm Osmers is the video assistant.
