The Allianz Arena will be the venue for the official opening fixture for the sixth time in a row, but Friday will be special: the match against Hoffenheim will be the first competitive fixture at the Arena after the comprehensive makeover during the summer break. fcbayern.com has compiled the facts and stats ahead of the opener of the 56th Bundesliga campaign.
Unbeaten in opening fixtures
FC Bayern kick off the Bundesliga campaign as reigning champions for the 11th time, and they boast an almost flawless record: the Bavarians have won nine of the ten matches, scoring at least two goals in all of them (netting a total of 31 times and conceding seven goals). The only stalemate dates back to 2008, when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Hamburger SV.
Champions undefeated
Taken altogether, the record is stacked in favour of the champions in the official opening fixtures, staged since 2002. German champions have never lost the opener, winning 13 times and drawing three games. Champions have won all of the last nine matches, and none of the 16 matches ended goalless. The biggest win was registered by FC Bayern in the summer of 2016, when they downed Werder Bremen 6-0.
Premiere for Hoffenheim
Unlike the Munich men, Hoffenheim contest an official opening fixture for the first time. They have won none of their ten matches away in Munich. Bayern boast eight wins and two draws on their home field, with 32 goals scored and eight conceded. They won their last home match against Hoffenheim, a 5-2 victory in January 2018. However, that was Hoffenheim's only defeat under Julian Nagelsmann in the four meetings with FCB.
