Kovac: A deserved victory, even by this scoreline

FC Bayern clinched the first title of the season on Sunday evening, turning in a blistering display in the 5-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. "We invested a lot because we wanted to get off to a positive start to the season, so we can be pleased," Mats Hummels commented after the final whistle. "A compliment and congratulations to my team. They did a really good job over 90 minutes," coach Niko Kovac said after clinching his first silverware with FC Bayern.

Reaction to Frankfurt v Bayern

Niko Kovac: "A compliment and congratulations to my team. We did a really good job over 90 minutes. We had to show good positional play and quickly switch from defence to attack. We scored the goals at the right time. We let the ball do the work in the second half. A deserved victory, even by this scoreline. Alaba's injury is a setback, we don't know what's the problem. He sustained a knock to his knee, we hope it's just a bruise. We'll examine it today or tomorrow. I hope for us and for him nothing serious has happened."

Mats Hummels: "The title means a lot to the club and to us national team players after the setbacks from mid-April onwards. We invested a lot because we wanted to get off to a good start to the season. We wanted to win the first competitive fixture of the season and clinch the title, so we can be pleased."

Leon Goretzka: "The result reflects our dominance in the match. We scored two goals at the right moment and then sealed it with aplomb."

Adi Hütter (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): "At the end of the day my debut wasn't enjoyable. We have to congratulate FC Bayern on a deserved victory, they were superior in almost every respect. Nevertheless I saw some phases when I thought our positional play was good and that we annoyed them up front, especially at the beginning. The momentum was gone after the opener, the second goal was the turning point."

Danny da Costa (Eintracht Frankfurt defender): "We had very ambitious plans, we wanted to get a grip on the match by being aggressive, just as we did in the cup final. We succeeded at it until the opener, then we lacked the courage to put them under pressure. Bayern ruthlessly take advantage of mistakes."
