Four matches, four victories, 12 points: FC Bayern are the only Bundesliga team with maximum yield so far. Niko Kovac' men beat runners-up FC Schalke 2-0 on Saturday, retaining top spot in the Bundesliga, two points clear of Hertha Berlin on ten points. "At the end of the day it was a deserved win," said former Schalke man Leon Goretzka after the final whistle. Kovac added: "I have to praise the whole team today."
Reaction to Schalke v Bayern
Niko Kovac: "We saw a very, very good Bundesliga match today. My team were dominant over 90 minutes, they were in control and created many chances. Unfortunately they scored too few goals. A great performance! I have to praise the whole team today, what we did up front but also in defence, without the ball. We regained possession quickly when we lost it up front."
Leon Goretzka: "We got off to a superb start, we had many chances from the off, maybe we could have extended our lead earlier if the final ball had been a little better. Schalke did a good job then, they press incredibly well, our organisation was a bit bad in the second part of the first half. But I think at the end of the day it was a deserved win."
Domenico Tedesco (FC Schalke coach): "It's difficult against Bayern, but we kept at it for a long time. We were reeling a bit at the beginning, until the opener, but then we were solid through to the end."
Sebastian Rudy: "We had hoped for a bit more today. We had a good grip in the first half, gained possession a number of times, we could have made more out of it. It was a bit more difficult in the second half, we didn't have so much grip then, didn't gain possession so often and created hardly any chances. Unfortunately it was deserved, but we didn't turn in a bad performance."
Ralf Fährmann: "You mustn't concede goals from set pieces against Bayern with their imposing possession game, that's just your downfall. We stifled Bayern's individual quality to a great extent today, so we just have to be more alert after set pieces."
