FCB aim to extend run
FC Bayern will be buoyed by an impressive run when they take on RB Leipzig on Wednesday evening. The German record champions have not lost the last competitive home match of a year for 31 years. The last defeat dates back to 28 November 1987, a 3-1 reverse against Borussia Dortmund. Bayern have clocked up 24 victories and six draws since, scoring an impressive 65 goals and conceding only 15. FCB took on RB in the last home match of the year in 2016, a clear-cut 3-0 victory. fcbayern.com has compiled the most interesting facts and stats prior to the match.
Clean sheet at home
FC Bayern and RB Leipzig cross swords in the Bundesliga for the fifth time, and the record is stacked in favour of the German record champions at three victories and one defeat. The Bavarians have won both home matches against RB, scoring a total of five goals and conceding none.
Extend the run
Bayern kept a clean sheet in their last two league matches, beating Nürnberg 3-0 and downing Hannover 4-0, and Niko Kovac' men aim to pick up where they left off. Leipzig boast seven clean sheets so far this season, a best mark in the league. The Saxony outfit have the league's best defence, having conceded only 14 goals (FCB: 18).
Leipzig are on an interesting run, victories and defeats taking turns in the last five league matches. RB beat Mainz 4-1 last weekend, so the pattern indicates a Bayern victory on Wednesday. Besides, Leipzig have only taken eight out of a possible 21 points on the road so far.
Kimmich's crosses, Lewandowski's headers
Joshua Kimmich is attack-minded both at full-back and in central midfield. The 23-year-old has set up nine goals so far, which makes him Bayern's best provider. He likes to set up Lewandowski, as he did away to Hannover last weekend. The Poland captain netted his 22nd competitive goal so far this term, a best mark in Europe's top five leagues. Four of his last five league goals have come with his head, Kimmich setting up three of them.
However, Leipzig's Timo Werner is prolific too, having ten league goals to his name. When Werner finds the net, he does so twice, boasting five braces so far. He has scored a total of three league goals against Bayern, but none of them in away matches.
