It’s derby time again, and this is one derby that Bayern particularly like. The men from Munich have won 12 of their previous 15 meetings with FC Augsburg, suffering just two defeats – that’s an average of 2.5 points per game. There’s no other current Bundesliga side against whom they have a better points average. fcbayern.com has picked out some other interesting stats on Friday evening’s fixture.
Augsburg’s nemesis
Bayern have scored an impressive 38 goals in the 15 games on the way to collecting those points. No other opposition team have hit the back of the net as often at the WWK Arena. Robert Lewandowski in particular has a penchant for scoring against FCA, having netted 18 times in Bundesliga meetings with the Swabians – that’s as many goals as Augsburg have scored in total against Bayern. No other player in Bundesliga history has registered as many goals against FCA.
Set-piece threat
Bayern will have to be wary at set pieces on Friday. Manuel Baum’s side have already scored 15 goals from dead-ball situations this season – the most in the league. They’ve been particularly accurate in front of goal on home soil this season, scoring at least once in all but one of their ten home league games, including ten goals in the last six. However, they don’t have much to show for it, with just two wins along with four draws and four defeats. Bayern, meanwhile, boast the best away record in the Bundesliga with eight wins on their travels to their name.
Steinhaus taking charge
Bibiana Steinhaus will officiate Friday’s Bavarian derby, her first match involving Bayern this season. The 39-year-old refereed two of the champions’ games last season, both of which they won. Steinhaus will be assisted by Alexander Sather and Frederick Assmuth on the touchlines along with fourth official Dominik Schaal. Robert Schröder and Tobias Reichel will be overseeing VAR in Cologne.
