In his first year at FC Bayern, Serge Gnabry won his first German Championship as well as the DFB Cup and the German Supercup for the first time. Now, the 23-year-old has received another personal accolade as the record champions' fans have voted the forward their player of the season.
The Germany player won 27.9% of the almost 35,000 votes cast, just ahead of Joshua Kimmich (25.6%) and Robert Lewandowski (11.6%). Gnabry earned the plaudits of the fans with strong performances throughout the entire season. The forward was on the pitch for 42 of 49 games, providing six assists and scoring 13 times himself. These included, for example, an important brace in the round of the last sixteen of the cup at Berlin and a late equaliser at the end of the season in Nürnberg.
Gnabry already moved to the Isar area in the 2017/18 season but spent his first year on loan at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. He's been a permanent member of the Bayern squad since the summer of 2018 and quickly earned his place in Niko Kovac's team as well as in the hearts of the fans, who were thrilled by his dynamic dribbling runs and lethal shooting prowess. The man from Stuttgart was the only Reds player to be voted Player of the Month twice this season - and now Player of the Season.
Three Bayern fans can also celebrate
In addition to the winger, three Bayern fans who cast their votes in the ballot also have good reason to celebrate, and each will take delivery of a shirt signed by the season winner. Well done to Maik Seidel, David Bartels and Sebastian Hammer on winning a shirt signed by Gnabry. Congratulations!
