With inimitable elegance, Philippe Coutinho caressed Kingsley Coman’s cross into the back of the net with his heel. However, the celebrations for the Brazilian’s supposed first FC Bayern goal were short lived, as the linesman’s flag saw the summer signing’s strike ruled out for offside in the opening Champions League win against Red Star Belgrade.

That, though, was just one of many scenes in which the Brazil international displayed his footballing finesse on Wednesday evening. Coutinho impressed on his European debut for the record German champions, showing real joy and a number of noteworthy moments out on the pitch at the Allianz Arena. “I think he had a really good game. He adds another dimension to our play with his footballing intelligence,” said coach Niko Kovac in praise of his playmaker. Coutinho appeared equally happy after the 3-0 victory, featuring in our snap of the day.
