Uli Hoeneß was back on the big stage today. Two weeks after the Bayern legend passed the baton of the club presidency over to Herbert Hainer, Hoeneß, now an honorary president, was once again thanked by Bayern's board of directors on Saturday. Shortly before the home Bundesliga match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the four board members, namely Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Jan-Christian Dreesen, Andreas Jung and Jörg Wacker, presented Hoeneß with a Gamsbart (a hat decoration) and a large bouquet of flowers. There was another very special gift announced too: from now on, a VIP Lounge in the Allianz Arena is to be named after Hoeneß. "I want to thank you all for your support over the years, it was a wonderful time in my life! All my best wishes to our Bayern," Hoeneß said, visibly moved by the presentation.
Bayern thanks all volunteers
Bayern said a public 'thank you!' to all volunteers in German football before today's game against Leverkusen. As part of the DFB's and DFL's national intiative "Danke ans Ehrenamt" ("Thank you for your voluntary work"), the German record champions paid tribute to volunteers in football for their hard work. Over 1.7 million people spend their weekends volunteering with commitment, dedication and passion. This weekend especially, Germany's top team would like to express its gratitude to the aformentioned volunteers. Keep up the good work- without you, football would not be possible!
