Bayern began their preparations for Saturday’s Bundesliga match at home to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday in a great mood and full of energy. Two days after the thrashing of Red Star Belgrade, the atmosphere among the players was great in the knowledge that the record champions had won their Champions League group with a game to spare.
Coach Hansi Flick put his charges through their paces during the training session that involved a running course and some shooting practice, but at the same time he ensured his players had enough time to recover after the recent games and traveling. It meant four-goal hero Robert Lewandowski, as well as Benjamin Pavard and Alphonso Davies, worked individually in the performance centre and could recharge their batteries once again ahead of the final six games of the year in the same of three weeks.
Small break doesn’t harm Gnabry’s finishing
Serge Gnabry showed what good a small break can do. The winger was rested in the Champions League and was able to enjoy his teammates’ impressive display from the bench. Now refreshed, the 24-year-old demonstrated his finishing ability in training with a number of excellent goals. The Germany international topped it all off with his trademark cooking celebration.
David Alaba also returned to the fold on Thursday. The Austrian didn’t travel with the squad to Serbia as he awaits the birth of his first child but was involved again in training back in Munich.
