7 facts on the Bundesliga match against Mainz

FC Bayern travel to 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday on Bundesliga Matchday 20. Here are seven interesting facts and stats for you to brush up on your knowledge before the game.

1. Bayern have won three-quarters of Bundesliga meetings with Mainz

After 27 top-flight meetings so far, the record is clearly in FCB's favour. The Munich men have won 20 of them, with Mainz winning just four and three ending in draws. Mainz have suffered more defeats and conceded more goals (76) against Bayern than against any other club in the Bundesliga.

2. Strong run at Mainz

Bayern have won on each of their last seven visits to Mainz with a goal difference of 17:3. The 05ers have not suffered this kind of losing run at their own stadium against any other side in the Bundesliga.

3. Best start to new year

Two wins, nine goals scored and none conceded on the first two matchdays after the winter break is the best start to the second half of a Bundesliga campaign ever, equalled only by VfB Stuttgart in 1990/91.

Bayern set a new Bundesliga record with their 5-0 win at home to Schalke last weekend:

4. Best attack against worst defence

With 44 goals conceded, Mainz have the joint-worst defensive record in the Bundesliga this season together with Werder Bremen. They now host the best attack in the league in Bayern, who have scored at least once in all 19 matches and have even equalled a club record from the 1973/74 campaign of 55 goals at this stage in the season.

5. Bayern the form team

Hansi Flick's charges have taken maximum points from their last five Bundesliga matches - no other team have managed five wins in that period.

6. Lewandowski with strong record against Mainz

Robert Lewandowski has been directly involved in 18 goals in 18 meetings against Mainz (15 goals, three assists). The Pole has netted once in each of the last two clashes.

7. Two firsts in reverse fixture

Benjamin Pavard and Ivan Perišić both scored their first goals in a Bayern shirt in the 6-1 win over the 05ers on Matchday 3. The Croatian also scored his first ever Bundesliga goal against the same opposition in a 2-1 success for Borussia Dortmund on 24 September 2011.

Bayern already demonstrated their attacking prowess this season in the reverse fixture against Mainz, winning 6-1:
