Robert Lewandowski must look back fondly on 23 September 2014. In his third home game after signing from Borussia Dortmund the striker scored his first goal for Bayern at the Allianz Arena. The goal put Bayern 2-0 ahead against SC Paderborn. In the end the record champions prevailed 4-0 against the newly promoted side, who surprisingly travelled to Munich as league leaders.
First against last
Five and a half years later Lewandowski and FC Bayern face Paderborn again on Friday evening (kick-off 20:30 CET). The league situation is very different this time. League leaders Bayern play host to the last-placed team from East Westphalia, who re currently six points from safety. Lewandowski leads the Bundesliga top scorer list with 23 goals this season - the entire Paderborn squad has scored 29.
Since the game in September 2014, the 31-year-old striker has set a number of records in the Bayern shirt. He's scored 91 times at home in the Bundesliga and 151 times in total for the record champions. This puts him in third place in the all-time Bayern scoring list behind Gerd Müller (365) and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (162). With 227 competitive goals Lewandowski sits in second place behind Müller (508). There seems to be no end to Lewandowski's hunger for goals - may he continue on Friday against Paderborn…
