Franck Ribery was once in a league of his own, but he now has company in the form of David Alaba and Thomas Müller as the most decorated players in Bundesliga history with nine titles apiece. It’s an incredible achievement for two players who began their careers in the FC Bayern academy.
Nine Bundesliga titles with Bayern
Müller and Alaba have won all nine of those titles together and, of course, with Bayern. The first time they got their hands on the Meisterschale was back in 2009/10. Since 2013, they have lifted the trophy an incredible eight years in a row. As they have in previous years, the pair have played a key role in defending the league title in 2019/20.
Alaba’s move inside
Following injuries to centre-backs Niklas Süle and Lucas Hernandez, Alaba moved inside from left-back and has become the boss in the back four. The Austrian has featured in 26 of the 32 matchdays this season, playing every minute of almost all of them. He’s only missed three through injury and was an unused substitute in two. He netted his only goal of the campaign on Matchday 3, with a sublime free-kick in the 6-1 win over Mainz.
Müller the assist king
Müller had featured in every match this season until the home game against Gladbach, which he missed through suspension for five yellow cards, and has been a firm regular again since November. The 2014 World Cup winner has led from the front with his performances as Bayern have chalked up win after win. He’s scored seven goals himself, but it’s as a provider where he has impressed most. His 20 assists equals the Bundesliga record held by Kevin De Bruyne, but the Bavarian still has time to claim the honour outright himself in the final two games.
