There are important goals and there are beautiful goals – and sometimes they’re both, as Joshua Kimmich proved against Borussia Dortmund on 26 May. The Germany international saw BVB goalkeeper Roman Bürki a step too far off his line just before half-time and went for an audacious lob from 20 yards. The ball sailed perfectly into the far top corner and turned out to be the only goal of the game as Bayern claimed a 1-0 win and took a huge step towards defending their Bundesliga title.

Fans of the record champions also approved of the effort and voted Kimmich’s lob May’s Goal of the Month by an overwhelming majority (82%). In second place was Robert Lewandowski (8%) when he made it 3-0 against Fortuna Düsseldorf after brilliant build-up play. Third place went to Lina Magull for her free-kick to round off the 3-0 win over Hoffenheim in the first game after the restart of the Women’s Bundesliga.
