Reaction to Wolfsburg v FC Bayern
Hansi Flick: "I'm proud of my team's achievements. The way we put our opponents under pressure, the energy we displayed in every match pleased me. It makes me proud. And of course it motivates us. We hope we'll play in front of the fans next season, and that we can repeat this feat."
Thomas Müller: "It's different of course. We don't want to get used to it. But a big compliment to everyone involved, to all who made it possible for us to conclude the campaign. But the biggest 'thank you' goes to our fans out there! Who continue to love football, despite everything. I hope we can integrate them back in, step by step. Of course the competition is as intense. But the atmosphere is different, and you lose a slight sense of purpose. We're enjoying the way we bounced back. The second half of the campaign was phenomenal. I'd say, 'well-deserved.' It wasn't easy in autumn, both for the club and for me personally. So, aside from my first championship title, this one is maybe the most intense and most emotional one for me because it was packed. We felt that the younger players listened to us and that it bore the fruits of success together."
Robert Lewandowski: "It was a difficult but ultimately very strong campaign! We struggled a bit in the first two or three months. But we've always believed in ourselves and played very well then. Of course I'm very satisfied with my 34 goals, I'm very grateful to my colleagues. I always try to do my best, I'm very proud. And it's a great achievement to score 100 goals as a team. It shoes we've always kept our foot on the gas. We're very, very pleased."
Robert Lewandowski scored 34 goals this campaign, sealing the Bundesliga top scorer trophy for the fifth time. Only Gerd Müller netted more often in one campaign.
Christian Seifert (DFL CEO): "Dear players of FC Bayern. This is a special moment. But this is also a very strange moment. No one has ever experienced a season like this before. No spectators, no celebrations, no cheering - it's a strange atmosphere. But the fact that we are finishing our league today is a really great achievement. I want to thank everyone: the clubs, the players, the fans - without them we wouldn't be here today. I know that all the teams have tried to perform at their best in the most complicated of conditions over the last few weeks. In doing so, you have helped all 36 DFL clubs survive this phase of the crisis. Yes, it looks, sounds and feels different. But this was the only kind of Bundesliga possible for right now. And the new season will look the same, at least at the beginning."
Oliver Glasner (VfL Wolfsburg head coach): "Congratulations to FC Bayern Munich. They played an incredible second half. We did very well in the first half. The difference was: we didn't make good use of our chances, and Bayern did. We were simply not strong enough in the final third. Bayern were too great a task to overcome for us today. I can accept that.
