Bayern fans take note! The timetable for Mission Double Defence is set. This Friday, the German Football League (DFL) and German FA (DFB) announced the outline schedule for the 2020/21 season. The first round proper of the DFB Cup will kick off the season, and will take place over the weekend of 11-14 September 2020, with the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 returning to action one week later (18-21 September).
Only 13 matchdays will be played before a shortened winter break, where the pros will have just nine days to catch their breath, from Christmas Eve until 1 January, before starting up again. The football finale of the 2020 calendar year will be the 2nd round of the DFB Cup, taking place on 22/23 December.

DFB Cup final on 13 May
Bundesliga Matchdays 14 to 26 will be played from 2 January 2021 until the international break in mid-March. Matchday 34 will then take place on 22 May, with all nine matches in the final round of games played simultaneously, as is usual. Next year, however, the DFB Cup final will be played on Thursday, 13 May 2021, before the end of the Bundesliga.
However, all plans are subject to official regulations on site permitting matches to be played. Adjustments to the schedule for individual competitions in the light of a potentially worsening pandemic situation, or consequent regulation changes, are still possible.
