Lucky number, role models or style of play – shirt numbers have a special meaning for every player. Fans frequently associate certain numbers with players who have produced outstanding performances for their favourite club. Whether that's 31 with Bastian Schweinsteiger, 21 with Philipp Lahm or 7 with Mehmet Scholl and Franck Ribéry – numerous legends at FC Bayern will always be identified with a certain shirt number. Alexander Nübel, Adrian Fein and Joshua Zirkzee are at the start of their careers with the record champions. Despite that, the youngsters have chosen their shirt numbers for the new season with some thought.
Alexander Nübel
As with his former club FC Schalke 04, Alexander Nübel will wear the number 35 (to the shirt). The keeper takes over the shirt number of Joshua Zirkzee, which he wore making his first-team debut for FCB. The number was previously held by Renato Sanches (2016 to 2019), Thomas Kraft (2006 to 2011) and Zvjezdan Misimović (2002 to 2004).
Adrian Fein
Returnee Adrian Fein has opted for the number 30 (to the shirt). At his two previous clubs on loan, SSV Jahn Regensburg and Hamburg SV, Fein was the number 29, which is Kingsley Coman's number at FCB. Before Fein, 30 was the number worn by Luiz Gustavo (2011 to 2013) and Christian Lell (2003 to 2010).
Joshua Zirkzee
Attacker Joshua Zirkzee, who was worn the number 35 up to now, will have the number 14 (to the shirt) taking over from Perišić from last term's treble winning season. In the recent past, the number 14 was worn by Xabi Alonso (2015 to 2017) and Claudio Pizarro (2001 to 2007 and 2012 to 2015). Chairman of the board Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and coach Hansi Flick also had that shirt number during their playing careers at FC Bayern.
