After an 11-game drought without a clean sheet, FC Bayern finally managed to complete a game without conceding in the league with a 1-0 win in Augsburg. Lucas Hernández was crucial to this. The full-back was determined and consistent in his defensive battles with his opponents and thus controlled the left flank. The proof is in the stats: The 2018 World Cup winner had the most 50/50s of all Bayern players  (32, winning 62.5% of them).

"Lucas played very well, was very aggressive and also made his mark up front. So he did a very good job," Hansi Flick said, praising the 24-year-old afterwards. Hernández was not only active in his own half, especially in the first half, but was always involved in Bayern's offensive play.

Penalty deciding factor in the game

He was very willing to run down the flank, made the most sprints (31) of all Munich players and had the second most touches of the ball (97) for Bayern behind his compatriot Benjamin Pavard (101). With his courageous efforts, he won a penalty in the 12th minute, which Robert Lewandowski then converted  for what would be the winning goal. Hernández played a crucial part in both the offensive and defensive side of Bayern's game and was thus one of the pivotal players in the hard-fought victory in Augsburg.
